  This pastry not only tastes great, but the recipe is easy to remember and rolls out better than most others. 

Recipe makes ; one 9 inch top and bottom crust, or two 9 inch pie shells.

   Ingredients :

2 cups all purpose flour ( plus a pinch of salt mixed in )

1 cup shortening  (chilled or frozen)

1/2 cup milk  ( plus 1/2 Tablespoon lemon juice mixed in ( optional) )

 

     Directions :

   In a medium mixing bowl, cut shortening into flour and salt mixture with a pastry blender.

Continue blending until pea size chunks develop.

  Add milk all at once and stir with a fork till well blended.

Shape into a ball and let rest for ten minutes.

   Divide and roll out each half on a floured  surface as usual.
